Brief description of workshop theme: Transition design argues that the complex social, economic and ecological problems that we face require the transformation of entire lifestyles, so that they become more place-based, convivial and sustainable. 

In recent years Transition Design has begun to influence academic design education all over the the world. It is helping design educators and design students to reframe their role from servants of industrial development and globalisation to  social and cultural change  agents who can  catalyse the transformation of everyday life, bringing about systems level change and facilitating the transition to a new kind of cosmopolis an localism — planet wide networks of self-sustaining towns, cities and regions. The workshop brings together the three founders of Transition Design and will offer participants a new theoretical framework, and a new approach for designers who hope pivot their practice towards seeding societal transition towards more sustainable futures.

The location: The training will be held in Santuario de Lluc - an idyllic retreat in the heart of the Tramuntana mountains surrounded by stunning scenery and ancient stone oak forests. We will have the option of working outside for some of the sessions and there are many short and longer walks to enjoy right at the doorstep of the workshop facilities.

Language: The course will be taught in English without translation. As we expect a diverse group of participants from a wide range of European destinations, we will not be able to offer simultaneous translation, and hence a medium to high level of English will be necessary to get the most out of this opportunity.

Costs: 

Course fee: 650 euros.

Cost for accommodation and all meals: 490 euros; the course will run from the 12th to the 16th afternoon, the price includes 6 nights and all meals from the 11th dinner until the 17th breakfast in a double room for individual use only.

On the June 11th, we will organize an afternoon bus from the Airport, with one stop in Palma city, to take people to the Sanctuary of Lluc, and on June 17th after breakfast there will be a return bus to the airport, with a stop in Palma. This transfer option with cost an additional 30 Euros return.
